EQUINE BODYWORK

Massage can prove beneficial for all horses, whether they’re retired paddock mates, competition horses or undergoing rehab following injury (with permission from your Vet).  I provide both at-home visits and the option for you to bring your horse to my property (20m round pen and covered yards) in Masterton.

I'm an Equinology certified bodyworker and have been providing massage therapy to horses for over 7 years.  I offer appointments in the Wairarapa 7 days a week and in Upper Hutt every six weeks – check out my Facebook page for the Upper Hutt schedule, special offers and my equine bodywork portfolio.

What are the benefits of bodywork?
Massage therapy has been shown to:

  • promote mental and physical relaxation

  • help pain relief

  • reduce muscle tension

  • helps increase range of movement and suppleness, which has a positive
    influence on overall fitness

  • circulation can be improved and the chance of injury reduced

What happens during a session?
Each session starts with dynamic observations, which provides me with an opportunity to analyse how your horse moves, either on a lunge or walk/trot up depending on the facilities you have available.

I use a variety of massage techniques for a full body massage – these include:

  • sports massage

  • soft-tissue mobilisation

  • stretching, range of motion and positioning exercises

  • muscle activation techniques

  • focal point work (stress and trigger points)

  • myofascial release (MFR)

  • Atlas Equine Cranial Massager – I’ve had great results using this on my own horse when recovering from a neck injury and also horses who are tight in the poll. It’s particularly helpful for ‘head shy’ horses who will accept the Atlas but not human touch.

  • at the end of the session, I’ll teach you some techniques specific to the needs of your horse that you can use to maximise the benefits of the session.

You’ll receive a report following the session, along with links to guides and videos, tailored to the needs of your horse.

What else do I need to know?
Your horse must be dry for the massage. If your horse is wet, this limits the techniques I can use due to friction caused by wet hair. I also really appreciate it if you can give your horse a brush before the session so they’re mud-free. In bad/wet weather I need a shelter/covered area to work in, or you can bring your horse to my property where I have covered yards.

Duration: allow 60 – 75 minutes

Price*: initial session $105.00 | follow-up session(s) $95.00
